Munchkin & Missy

They think I have food...!

They think I have food…!

Missy and Munchkin were part of my wife’s ‘dowry’ when we married in 2004. They were part of a litter rescued in Grapevine, Texas by her daughter. All were adopted but these two, which my wife gladly took in hopes of finding homes for them here. She had recently lost Sam, a yellow tabby of 17 years to diabetes after having managed his treatments for two years and wasn’t sure she wanted to go through that heartbreak again.

My wife quickly found a home for the sisters in her general area and, assured that they were going to a good home, surrendered them to the new family. But, a feeling persisted within her that she was destined to be their new Mom and that her home was ‘meant to be’ their Forever Home.

What followed was over two weeks of relentless searching street by street for the familiar home or car that had taken the sisters. Finally, my wife’s persistence was rewarded and she found the family.

The family understood and was kind enough to allow themselves to be persuaded to return ‘the girls’. That was over 17 years ago.

Unfortunately, we lost Missy in 2011 to an animal bite. The vet surmised that, during that year’s awful drought in the Houston area, more wild animals than ever were coming into neighborhoods looking for water. Missy was bitten near the base of her tail and it must have severed or compromised a critical nerve. At first, her tail started to atrophy but, ultimately, she lost control of her kidneys, bladder, etc. She finally got so sick that we had no option but to end her suffering. I can’t begin to tell you how sad that day was for us.
