A close friend of ours, a fellow cat-fancier, is having a difficult weekend with Peanut, one of her fur babies. He was scheduled for a check up next week, but Friday he showed signs of fatigue, which is not like him. She rushed him to the vet where they found that his kidneys were not quite up to par. The vet immediately put Peanut on an IV as he was dehydrated. That was yesterday, Friday.
Today, she was able to visit Peanut for an hour or so and he looked and acted a bit better. He was more alert and his eyes were fully open. She took his brush (he loves to be brushed!) and some of his favorite treats. He gobbled the first treat down but didn’t want any dry food. When she mixed a treat in with a bit of dry food, he fished it out and ate the treat! He feels better than he did on Friday at least!
He will be on the IV for another 24 hours and if the numbers don’t go any higher, he might be able to go home with Mom and be with his siblings. At one point, he looked over to the bench where his carrier usually is and only saw Mom’s purse. He started to cry. It broke her heart; he wanted to go home.
She will be able to visit him again tomorrow and get a progress report. Perhaps Peanut can come home then. There is no cure, but if his numbers don’t rise, it is manageable.
We are praying hard for good news this weekend. We are all very attached to the dogs and cats we take in to care for. As anyone who has bonded with their pets knows, they are more than pets; they are family members.
Please add your prayers to ours for Peanut and his family. Thank you.
