"Adopt, don't shop!'
Rather than patronizing a kitten or puppy ‘mill’ please consider adopting from your local SPCA or Humane Society location. Animals here are in good health and generally have their medical needs up to date. Plus, these institutions frequently have ‘Adoption Days’ where you can rescue your new family member at a discounted rate and be assured that they are current, medically, and are ready to be welcomed into your home.
‘They don’t always have to be a new born’
There are many mid-life and older animals there that have been turned in or surrendered by their owners for a variety of reasons (owner died, moved or just can’t care for them any longer due to job loss, etc.). These cats and dogs still have a lot of life and love in them. They are mature, settled and just need someone to love and perhaps a lap in which to cuddle and say ‘Thank you for rescuing me!’
‘Give a black cat or dog a chance’
Sadly, even in this day and age, there is still a notion that black cats are bad luck. This is nonsense. They are no different than any other color cat. We have found ours (we have 3) to be very appealing both visually and in temperament. With their glossy black fur and gold or green eyes, they are quite striking. I’m not saying ‘pick up a few because they ‘look cool’,’ but they deserve the same consideration as any other ‘flavor’. Besides, black cats and dogs have a lower adoption rate than other animals because of this silly superstition. Make a difference in your life and theirs; adopt a black cat or dog. Here are a few reasons to adopt a black cat!
‘If you’re cold, they’re cold!‘
We don’t get many harsh winters here in southeast Texas but there are plenty of unpleasant days outside during our ‘winter’ time. Everyone appreciates a warm place in cold weather. Your pets are no exception!
